Baby on board

I have some big news. My three loyal readers may be wondering where the heck I've been the past few months. You were probably waiting on the edge of your seat for my latest creative endeavor and terrible photographs documenting it. Am I right?

But I let you down, again and again.

Well, here's why: I'm pregnant. And since I'm really, really, really old (according to my doctor, who left off all the "reallys," but I like to exaggerate)(I'll be 36 in a month)(That just doesn't seem that old to me). Darn. I lost my train of thought with all those tangents. Oh yeah -- since I'm old, I was just a little over-nervous about making it safely through the first trimester. I just know so many people who have miscarried in those first months. I am now 13 weeks along and had my second OB visit today, so I'm ready to share the news.

What does this have to do with blogging? A few things:

1. I've felt like complete and utter shit for 8 weeks and haven't had the energy or motivation to do any sewing beyond what I do for the Warehouse Fabrics Inc. blog each week.

2. I didn't know how to discuss my life without bringing up the baby. Because my life is just never going to be the same again, and it's a really big deal.

So there you go. I can hardly believe it! I was honestly surprised by the whole thing -- as surprised as you can get. I'm not sure why, since we stopped using birth control last January. But I guess I just really felt in my heart that we would not be parents (and I was OK with that), and so I put it out of my mind and never thought about it. And then, 10 months later ... HELLO!

And now, be glad you did not know until three months in, because you will probably hear way too much about my uterus and fetus and impending motherhood up until July. I apologize in advance.

Congratulations!! Your life is now over. LOL! Motherhood is the awesomest, scariest, best thing I've ever done. The little beasts totally own you.

I was chagrined to hear that I was an "older mother" according to my OB during my last pregnancy. (I was 30. WTH???)

OHMYGODTHAT'SSOAWESOME!
Yes, just like that, all one word AND in caps.
I'm so happy for you guys!
Now go show Mark the proper way to fold laundry, so he can do all the housework.
I was 'old' too, at 35. Didn't feel old then. Now? Decrepit!

YIKES! I have nightmares about that. Andy and I will be using birth control until one of us is dead, most likely. But we don't want kids.

It scares me when I see how many of my former students who are not yet 20yrs old have already had at least one kid. My sister and I were discussing how mostly stupid people are breeding these days (it's true: the higher the education level a person acquires, the less likely the person is to reproduce). And were lamenting the fact that as intelligent people we should probably do our part for society to balance out all the nitwits out there who are reproducing. But both of us hate children.

So, we leave it up to people like you. It's like trading carbon credits. For every idiot who is not fit to raise houseplants but feels compelled to have a child, we need people like you to offset them.

Thank you for doing your part.

LOL Kerry, I thought you may feel that way about kids. I guess I gathered that from your blog somewhere.

I was sort of like you in many ways. I certainly can't say I adore other people's kids much, but I'm pretty darn sure that I'll like mine, and I promise he/she will be a polite and productive member of society. Or, I'll do my best.

Have you seen that movie "Idiocracy"? It's kind of what you're talking about with the dumb people breeding.

You're recalling my blog entry about how I was sick of my facebook friends giving me hourly updates about their offspring. I had to take it down because I was getting so much hate mail - hate mail from the girls I went to HS with who still live in the same town, work at the same places their parents did for just above minimum wage, married guys from our HS (which is said seeing as we had 90 people in our graduating class). They didn't quite take to my editorial on Internet and parenting.

"Idiocracy" was recommended to me by one of my professors. He said it's his favorite movie ever and thinks it should be required viewing in our department.

I thought the same thing about WALL*E.

Congrats to you, I am sure you will do a fine job parenting.
